The following are some reviews and comments on my storytelling:
“Your stories were obviously a major part of the day, you really packed them in and they were featured in people’s favourite things in our touchscreen survey. I really appreciate your skills in working with all ages and involving the children – and giants – in the stories.”
Alison Jones, York ‘Explore’, co-ordinator of Narnia Day, Jan 2011
“Just wanted to say what a lovely time we had yesterday and how fab your stories/storytelling were….”
Audience member, Yorvik Viking Festival 2010
“Great fun! Amusing and spell-binding.”
Mrs H Harris, audience member, ‘Raucous Rhymes and Wonder Tales’
“I came along not knowing what to expect, but I was gripped!”
Laura Pinchon, mother of three, audience member, ‘Raucous Rhymes and Wonder Tales’
“Thanks for turning your wonderful idea into a magical reality. I enjoyed every minute and didn’t want it to end!”
Jen Hay, Holgate Windmill Preservation Society
“Catherine captures the interest of young children well, with her treasure trove of props as well as an infectious enthusiasm for the subject matter of her stories. At our Eco Market this summer, one of the children thought her storytelling was the best part-what a recommendation!”
Judith Rigg, headteacher, Copmanthorpe Primary
“Catherine is intelligent, creative and resourceful, and brings great enthusiasm, energy and optimism to all the projects she devises. In her personal and professional life she is committed to, and very knowledgeable about, contemporary ‘green’ issues.
Catherine brings her enthusiasm and commitment to the art of story-telling too. She keeps abreast of current developments and trends in story-telling by attending story-telling gatherings, festivals and other events.
In her own story-telling persona of Nettlefoot Kate she draws the children into her stories with her presentation and the natural objects that she brings with her. Also with the beguiling lilt of her Northern Irish accent. She has a broad range of stories in her repertoire, and so is able to tailor her stories to her audiences’ wishes (e.g. ‘I want a scary story.’ ‘How scary do you want it to be?’)
Having two young children herself, Catherine is experienced at interacting with children, and keeping their attention. As the driving force behind the Very Young Friends of West Bank Park, and their Toddler Group, she has much experience inspiring young children about the wonders of ‘nature’, through the original activities she puts on and stories she tells.”
Anneliese Emmans Dean, Poet / Performer / Composer / Wildlife Photographer
“As an accredited childminder and a parent I have been an active member of Very Young Friends of West Bank Park since it began and have also attended several of Catherine’s storytelling events at fairs and in the park. Catherine is excellent at holding a captive audience of all ages with her stories. She is able to make the ordinary seem magical and keep children involved. She is very patient and good at relating to a wide range of ages of children from babies to teenagers.”
Laura Barrett, accredited childminder
