Fees
My fees will vary according to the preparation and travel required, and the type of organisation. For York or nearby schools and voluntary organisations my usual charge is £90 per half day and £170 per day.
Legal
I have public liability insurance (up to the value of £5m) with Glenham and enhanced CRB clearance.
Qualifications and memberships
I hold a MSc in Education for Sustainability from London South Bank University, and am a member of the Society for Storytelling. For four years I was a School Travel Advisor with a local authority and worked intensively with both primary and secondary schools on promoting sustainable travel, thus I am experienced in curriculum development and familiar with national educational initiatives such as Every Child Matters, Sustainable Schools, Healthy Schools, Arts Mark and SEAL. I am also an experienced outdoor playgroup leader (the Very Young Friends of West Bank Park, see www.westbankparkkids.blogspot.com).
Other services
As well as storytelling and running storytelling workshops, I also act as a consultant on Education for Sustainable Development for schools, local authorities and other organisations (eg. City of York Council, North Yorkshire Business in Education Partnership, Yorkshire and Humber Education for Sustainable Development Forum, University of York Centre for Lifelong Learning).
It’s so nice to know that someone is making a mark with storytelling in York.
I use to work in York 5yrs ago (now in Hong Kong) and I tried for many years to get storytelling off the ground. I tried several times to establish clubs in York, Malton and Whitby but it seemed that people had closed ears then. Yes I did usual schools and galleries etc but getting adults interested was very difficult.
I was a director of the SfS a few years ago now and I do miss the connection storytellers have in the UK.
Do you support the new Storytelling Club in Whitby and when it’s Whitby Folk Week (many storytelling events then)?
Lynne Kirk
